Monument to Balzac by Auguste Rodin – Museum-Quality Replica
Originally created by Auguste Rodin to honor the legendary French novelist Honoré de Balzac (1799–1850), the Monument to Balzac is a powerful interpretation of the writer’s spirit rather than a traditional likeness. Commissioned in 1891 by the Société des Gens de Lettres, Rodin’s full-size plaster model debuted in 1898 at the Salon in Champ de Mars. Met with controversy and ultimately rejected, the piece was moved to Rodin’s home in Meudon. It wasn't until July 2, 1939—22 years after Rodin’s death—that the sculpture was finally cast in bronze and installed on Boulevard du Montparnasse in Paris.
This rare, high-quality museum replica captures the bold vision and expressive force of Rodin’s original. A striking tribute to both literary genius and sculptural innovation, it makes a meaningful gift for collectors, Rodin admirers, or anyone drawn to iconic works of modern art.
